I'm trying AA out but am very frustrated with the occasional pops and stutters I get.  I have a new Dell M1710 with 1 GB RAM so was hoping this was enough. I am also using a PreSons Firbox and BCF2000 - they seem to work well enough--seem to be set up properly.
My needs are relatively simple. Just mixing my voice track over several music tracks - I'm making guided imagery relaxation tapes. I use to do this sucessfully in Cool Edit with a much slower machine. I've followed some of the Optimization advise for AA but still get a stutter, or pops every few minutes of recording. Cleaned up my Startup applications, hard-drive, etc...  I just can't believe my system isn't fast enough.  Is there a general bloated problem with AA? or is it still something wrong with my configeration?  The overall design layout in AA is nice so I'd like the program to work.
I found Ableton Live too complex so was hoping AA would do what I need. After three days of struggling I'm ready to look for a new, less problematic program - unless someone can help or assure me that its just a mistake I made in configeration.

Solution - Disconnect wireless internet connection.  After a long day I found the problem. My Presonas Firebox was the problem, occassionally stuttering and poping even though I have a very fast system. After all kind of adjustments the bottom of Presonas web site suggested I disconnect my Wireless connection to Internet. Of course. And it worked. No stuttering. No pops.

Does everyone know this. Am I the last to be told:).  Wasted several days.

Sorry to suggest that AA may be too bloated. Working well now.
