Hi, I just noticed that the Themis skin (my favourite now) does not show which forum section has new posts. Any chance to fix it?

Thanks for the suggestion PQ.  I did a test with the Themis skin, and for me it did show a slightly different icon by the forums with new post.  But, it is extremely subtle!  I'll edit the icon to make it a bit bolder.

I quite like Neptune (but what on earth is the picture at the top supposed to represent?); but there's more experimenting to do yet.  I was surprised that after posting a reply I didn't get shown what I'd just posted, which is usual on these boards. (edit - Curiously, when modifying a post, it does show the result.)

I've not come across this forum package before - it seems quite interesting.  But I wonder if going from one PHP/MySQL package to another PHP/MySQL package is enough to sort the security problems.  Fingers crossed!

Oh, and the distorted characters check idea for registering is not much good these days; most of the schemes have been cracked, and I have heard that they reuse the images on porn sites to get humans to solve them for them!

You can change it by enabling 'Return to topics after posting by default" in Profile>Look and Layout Preferences.

Thanks - I'd wondered what that meant (without thinking much, I guess).

edit - Much better!  Now I need to get used to the different spacing around quotes...

I'm crossing my fingers too!  In this case, it was a heck of a lot easier just to switch over the software since it was mostly automated.  Otherwise it would have taken days to find and repair the problems with the old forum, especially since these next couple of weeks are gonna be busy.

I'll look into making the "return to topics" option a default for everybody.

EDIT:  Paul, do you have experience with PHP?  I remember reading on your site (I think) that you've done many different types of programming.

It was impressive that you could just transfer the whole thing over.  And I guess that phpBB is the "big target", like Windows is for viruses, so this package may benefit simply from a little obscurity - though I note the last update was to address a security issue undecided

grin  I'm hoping exactly that about SMF.  There are a lot of "perks" that SMF has apart from phpbb.  One of them being a direct newsfeed from the developers concerning updates placed right in the admin panel.

Hey, you removed member categories!!  I was 12 post short of becoming a Hero Member!  shocked

(Just kidding - good move. There should be no incentive, not even a slightest one, for posting just to increase the number of posts)

I want to be able to see all the posts in the last XXX hours, days, etc.  The "snitz" forum handler has this feature
and calls it "active topics".  You can set it to a conivenient amount of time for your case.  The troulble with the
"show unread posts" feature is that I often want to go back and read some of the recent posts again, but they
do not show up (and I usually cannot remember how to find them).

does it allow ending line  feeds Huh (FIVE inserted below)

One more thing (sorry for multiple posts - but I keep finding things). In the old forum, if there were multiple replies to a watched topic, I got only one notification until I accessed the topic again.  Now, I am pretty (though not 100%) sure that I got two notifications from this thread when I was away from it. Can this be fixed, so we don't get 50 notifications over a night from a very active watched topic?

Check your profile settings for "Notifications & Email" - select the "Receive reply notification only for the first unread reply" option. This should do as you wish.  cool
