I apologize in advance on this question. I couldn't find the answer in a search because it is probably too simple. Still learning the app.

I usually import multiple files and work on them in edit view, cleaning them up (spoken word only, for a podcast novel) before doing anything with them in the multitrack view (layering with background music, adding effects, etc.). But when I save the session and come back to the session later, any files not inserted in the multi-track have to be re-imported.

How can I make sure that when I reopen Audition that the files that I've been working with will be there without having to re-import them?

Thanks!

A "Session" is information about all of the files you have open in the Multi-Track view at the time you create the session.  Obviously, tracks with nothing on them (or, files not in the multi-track session) are not going to get saved as part of the session.

To create a session the way you want it to be, import all target files into the Multi-Track view.  Then, in the Multi-Track view, click on File > Save Session As - and make certain that you have a tick mark in the box at lower left of the "Save As ..." dialogue box that says "Save copies of all associated files".

See if that does it for you.

Thanks for the suggestion. It didn't give me what I was looking for, since like you wrote I was using the term 'session' incorrectly. Let me rephrase the question this way:

Let's say I open audition and import 20 sound files and begin working with them in Edit view. At some point I would like to close Audition, open it up again at a later time, and have those 20 files appear for me to work with without re-importing them (or at least one step method of bringing them back in without having to go out to multiple folders and import them in again).

Is this possible under Edit View? The only workaround I've come up with is creating a dummy session under multitrack view, dropping in these 20 files, and then saving the session.

No, not as far as I am aware.

That's what you'll need to do.  You can then easily flip back to the edit view to edit the files.

If you are worried that this will interfere with the layering and arrangement you do in the multitrack view, you can always mute the "holding" tracks containing the files that you haven't edited yet.
