Burning LARGE files to DVD?
Friends,
I'm having difficulty burning very large music files to DVD. Can't figure it out.
One file is 2,077 MB (about 45 minutes at 32-bit-float and 96kHz.)
I'm using Nero 6.0, and tried doing it as data on an ordinary Sony (16x max) DVD burner.
The blanks are +R.
How do I do this using a standard Sony DVD burner and Nero?
The blank DVD +R is 4.7 GB.
Thanks,
Dogger

You haven't said anything about the problem except that one exists, so it is extra hard to guess what might be happening.
There are problems with audio files any larger than 2G in many applications. They just can't handle them, period. Of course, if you are writing this as data, that ought not to enter into consideration.

Sorry, yes, I am writing them as DATA. Tried UDF format.
Drive runs for awhile. Quits. Gives a vague error message "Failed".
That's it.

Seems to me that either the buffer isn't keeping a sustained rate of transferring the large file, or possibly a media problem with the discs.
Are you using the UltraBuffer with Nero 6? Also, try using a slower burn rate to limit the task requirements of the burner and computer.
I would think that you have burned other DVDs without problems?

Many possibilities. I'd try different media first, unless you've had consistent success with that media before. Some burner/media combos are just poor.
Verify that your hard drive and burner are both in DMA mode.
What speed are you burning at?

I have successfully burnt 4.5 Gb files to DVD-R. To do this I needed to use the UDF file system, because the old ISO CD-R file system traditionally used on CD-Rs has a 1Gb file size limit. (That's why when you look at DVDs in a DVD drive, none of the files are bigger than 1Gb, which at first glance seems odd; you'd expect the file to movie-length.)
Apart from the UDF file system, I didn't do anything special. I burn using Nero (v6), on a Pioneer drive. It's moderately old now, so I recall only burning at 4x. I can't imagine that +R vs -R makes a difference, but I've been using -R.

To eliminate some potential problems, perhaps you should try burning your disc as an image. If no errors occured there, then its most likely a buffer underrun error.
I have not run into any problems burning large files myself, though.

Did you try converting the 32 bit data file to 24 bit and burn it?

I've never had much luck with Nero, especially with data DVDs, but I've found the free version of
this
very good.

I just tried burning a 32 bit data file with Nero6 and had no problems at 2.4 speed.

There ARE older drives that can't handle +R blanks...my first DVD burner was this way....
