I'm surprised that those keyboards are still around. I remember the talk about them in my first computer class way back in the 80s. I don't think they ever really caught on.

Yup, I'm the one who voted "I have no idea what you're talking about"!

As I use lots of different keyboards all the time in supporting many users, it would be pointless for me to consider a non-standard layout.

My daughter suffers from RSI, and has found her Maltron keyboard a great benefit - but that's a completely different physical layout.  It uses the QWERTY key order, but can be had in Dvorak form as well.

So because I was bored and, uh, have no life, I pulled out the girlfriend's old keyboard and re-arranged the keys in DVORAK sequence, tweaked the keyboard settings in Windows and gave it a go. My conclusion:

1. Ouch. Was typing that hard to begin with before I took that typing class back in high school?

2. The GF must either really love me or just tolerate me completely since I spent half an hour prying apart her keyboard with a Swiss Army Knife.

Wow.  You're girlfriend must really like you to put up with that.  I can't believe the crap I do that my wife puts up with either.

I've read about the DVORAK keyboards and, while what they say makes sense, I've spent about 40 years touch typing on the QWERTY style.

Old dog, new tricks, all that sort of thing.

Yeah - YEARS ago I think I messed around with the Dvorak layout just long enough to decide I didn't want to learn to type ... again.
