When starting a new session in multitrack view I have found that the first recording I make always seems to stop at the end of the view. Subsequent recordings on other tracks carry on OK until stopped. I have tried zooming out the session to much longer than required but that makes it difficult to see the audio recording. If I zoom in again to a view of, say, 2 mins, it then stops at the 2 min mark although the overall session time is longer.

So far I cannot find any logic to this but need to do some more experiments. Does any one know of any configuration setting that makes this happen? I would just like to be able to start a new session, record enable my first track and record for as long as I want.

I just tried a number of things, and I can't find any settings that will terminate an initial recording at the end of the first screen at all. What do you have the general scrolling preferences set as?

Check the setting of the first "play" button.  This can have an effect on recording, although "Play from cursor to end of view" should actually be fine.

Testing indicates that you should have the first "play" button set to one of the first three right-click options when recording.  Any other setting can cause unexpected behaviour of various kinds, depending on the setting.

(This is an area where even AA1.5 could be dodgy - having the right click button set to "play entire file" causes an instant exit if you try to record, in that version).

Yes you're right Peter. I am not sure what the default is after installation but my multitrack play must have been set to Play Entire File which does stop the recording at the end of the View. However it doesn't seem very intuitive to select Play View, for instance which works OK, when you want the program to continue recording past the end of the view smiley

It's even less intuitive that the play button controls the recording length at all ...

A check has revealed that a few of these settings produce what amounts to a disaster - weird error messages indeed when you try to record with 'Play Postroll' selected, for instance.

I'm making this thread sticky, because this is quite significant. And I've taken the liberty of changing the thread title to make it very clear what's in here.
