I have purchased and registered Cool Edit 2000 and the multitrack studio plugin. I would like to be able to do 8 track recording simultaneous recording (or greater)
Is my best route to upgrade to CE 2.0?
do I not get and allowance against the purchase of the official studio plugin? The site seems to imply I have to pay $199 if I have Cool Edit 2000 but no mention of a studio plugin allowance?

thanks Zita
I understand this.
Just wondering if any of the Syntrillium people would confirm the price for the upgrade.
Is there a credit for CE2K studio plugin against the upgrade price?

You don't really need Synt to confirm this - all he info you need is here (which I think you've already seen). And I'm pretty sure that the only CE2K concession is related to the basic package, and none of the plugins - this was certainly the case with the CE2K to CEP1.2 upgrade. If you were in the situation that I was in when I made the upgrade, it was even worse, because I had a fully-configured CE2K, which would now cost a significant percentage of the cost of CEP2.0! So the info on the linked page means just what it says, and no more.
Incidentally, CE2K is only capable of recording 1 stereo track at a time. This is a software limitation - it has nothing to do with the soundcard you use.

Colinh,
There's no upgrade discount for plugins, but if it's been less than a month since you bought CE2K w/ Studio, talk to Syntrillium Sales (sales@syntrillium.com). Explain that you appear to have bought the wrong version, and ask if they can apply the $98 that you spent on CE2K w/ Studio towards the purchase of CEP2.

Hmmmmmm....... I think that this is a bit of a long shot - because CE2K is an internet purchase, and you get to download the necessary files to do a full install. How on earth do you 'give' those files back in any sort of a meaningful way? I think that you would might be able to persuade Synt to give you a little more discount if you've purchased more modules very recently, but that really is going to be as good as it gets.
Daan, you're a Synt agent. Put yourself in Synt's position for a minute. You sell something, and the customer wants a full refund, but he can't guarantee that he's given you every copy of the full product back... Oh yeah???
Can't see it myself...

Colin,
With all due respect and appreciation to the Doubtful Thomases above, I am more than a bit familiar with this subject and I was not just stating an opinion. The website only deals with the most common situations. Just talk to sales. If you happen to catch a new person who isn't familiar with the 30d switchover policy, ask for Keith or e-mail me and I'll put you in touch with him.

In that case, all I can say is that the company is being very generous...

Well I have to say that the nice people at Syntrillium gave me full credit against my purchase of CE2K and the Studio add on and I am now the proud owner of CE2.0 Pro!
This may have been because I bought them both together as a bundle?
A refreshing approach and one in the eye for the purveyors of cheaper pirate copies!

Well, in all my dealings with Syntrillium, generous is certainly one of the first 3 words that would spring to mind. Email sales, explain your situation and see what they have to say. What have you got to lose?
