Help! I'm a new user to Cool Edit, however I'm experienced with many other applications and programming. But I'm feeling pretty stupid right now. I'm trying to record from a cassette player to MP3 using Cool Edit and I can get the audio into Cool Edit and play it back, BUT I CAN'T SAVE THE FILE!!! Neither the SAVE or SAVE AS are available under FILE (they are light gray). I've gone thru HELP and went through the tutorials. I am using a free download of Cool Edit (trying before buying) but I wouldn't think Syntrillium would restrict me from saving a file with Cool Edit Trial.
My experience with these type of problems are I'm overlooking something obvious, so can someone please tell this newbie what he is doing wrong?
Thanks.

IF you are trying out Cool Edit 2000, you're right, in that Syntrillium DOESN'T restrict you saving. BUT, as you have just found out, they don't make it easy to save, and you have 30 days to test out the software. When you open up Cool Edit 2000 there should be a little box explaining to you that you can only use two sets of functions at a time for each session. One of those groups includes the "SAVE" option. This one MUST be checked in order to save any work you do.
You can play around like this for your trial period, after which you must choose to buy or say goodbye. All of this is to get people to BUY the program and not continually use the trial indefinately.
If you downloaded the demo of Cool Edit Pro you can't save anything, period.

Hello Craig. All of what Beetle said is correct.
However, since you're trying to save to MP3, it must be noted that the demo use of the MP3 filter is limited to 1 minute, ie, the file length. There is no length limitation on .wav.
