I have my turntables going thru the line in on my sound card. The sound plays thru my computers speakers but I don't know how to get Cool Edit to pick up on it. The lcd stays static and nothing gets recorded while the records are spinning.
Suggestions? I know the problem is most likely staring me in the face but I decided to stop looking for a moment and maybe save some time by asking you guys.
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

Have you checked your windows mixer? Start-Programs-Accsessories-entertainment-volume control. Check to make sure the proper sliders are up and not muted.

this is kind of the same as what Jay said but maybe your sound card is set to record through the microphone socket and not line-in. to change this go to volume control as Jay says then click of the options menu at the top and select properties and check the recording circle and make sure that the line check box is checked; then click okay and check the line check box in the next screen which comes up. This should make sense as you do it.
