I use Microcassette Recorder to record the dictations and want to use cooledit to save them into wav file format and ftp them to remote locations for transcription. When i save the wav file, i want the size of the file to be as small as possible, but quality should be good for others to listen.
Can somebody tell me the optimum save parameters in cooledit.

I would have thought that for Microcassettes, whose frequency response isn't exactly extended, that sampling at 22kHz in 8 bit mono would be more than adequate, if that's a rate supported by your soundcard. It should be - it's pretty standard. This will give you files that are about 1/8th the size of the same length of audio on a CD, so we're talking about 1.3 Mbytes/min. If you don't like the quality at this setting, try 16bit recording. This will take up twice as much room, though.

Actually, if you want to FTP them to a remote location, you might be better off not sending them as WAV files, but using something like MP3, which will compress them much more without seriously compromising the speech quality. This would make them much quicker to send than WAVs.
