I recently installed the Cool Edit Special Edition that came with my Lexicon Studio Soundcard on my new computer that has Windows 98. Previously, I used Cool Edit on another computer with Windows 95 and did not have any problems.

Sometimes when I try to record from a CD player hooked into my soundcard, my computer crashes or locks up as soon as I hit the record button. Other times, I am unable to record for a while and then the Cool Edit program locks up and the recording stops.

I am able to play wav files on my computer through Cool Edit and I can record over the files without any problems. It is when I try to record a new file that I am having trouble.

Any advice on how to correct the recording problem would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Matt. There could be a number of issues here. For starters, it sounds like a soundcard driver issue, or perhaps something to do with applications running in the background, or IRQ sharing.

For the most complete info, I would recommend emailing . They can provide you with a list of optimization tips to help you troubleshoot what's happening.

If you're familiar with Windows' System Configuration Utility (Start>Run>MSCONFIG) you can go to the 'Startup' tab and disable items that you don't need...Essentially, everything other than ScanRegistry, SystemTray and TaskBar can <typically> be disabled. You will of course need to keep the LexPanel enabled, and there may be a few other Lex-related options...
