I'm not sure what you mean by deleting the 'original associated waves'....Are you trying to remove the waves from the session-permanently? You can right-click on the waveblock in question, then select Remove waveblock, then Re-Save (not save as). Of course, you'll still have to physically delete the wav file itself from the folder that it's in (either with windows explorer, or from the desktop, etc.) But either way, once it's remove from the session and you re-save, it will no longer be associated.
AND, if you're creating a new file in a session (say, a vocal take) and you don't like it, you can right-click and select 'Destroy Wave' which will remove from the session without saving.
