This is probably useless to most people, but I remember someone asking this question about a year ago and I finally figured it out.
Someone asked the question if it was possible to open up the Windows mixing panel and have it go directly to the recording screen instead of the default playback screen. Here is how to do it.
Do a search on your computer for a program called "sndvol32.exe". Create a shortcut to that file and place it wherever you want. Now right click on the shortcut and click on properties. In the path statement, add "/r" (without the quotes) so the path should now look something like this
C:\Windows\system32\sndvol32.exe /r
This will take you directly to the recording sliders instead of the playback sliders.
There are also a couple more switches I found.
/t - will give you the single output slider control (same as single clicking on the speaker icon in the systray).
/s - gives you a condensed version of the mixer.

Since you have to dig information each time that you want to do something with windozzzzzzzzzzzzze, I consider this information very helpful. Thanks.

Very nice find, Roger... I was pleased just to find that you could open two volume controls at once, and set one to be the recording mixer, and one to be playback! Going straight to the record side is even cooler!
