I'm pretty new to using all the features of cool edit. I wonder if anyone has any tips on what it the best order to apply processing elements in music tracks. Like for instance when is the best time to do noise reduction--before or after altering a track to give the instrument the sound you want. Stuff like that. Should noise reduction need to be done on the final mix? do you use it before or after compressing?
Any comments welcome.

pretty much straight after recording..if the recording needs a little amplitude boost to see it then that is fine..try and keep your setting no greater than 80
