I have used Cool Edit Pro for mixing about 20 songs together (the songs is taken from CDs during 1995-2000, with different qualiy on the cds). I burned the mix and find out that the recorded output were different for the songs. How can I avoid this in the future ? I have read how to "normalize" but I think these hints and steps are a little bit "to far" compared to my experience with Cool Edit Pro. Is there anyone outthere who can explain the steps from having 20 wav-songs into the multitrack-view and try to give them all almost the same output (volume)-level ?

hi menogili,
Unfortunatly you are dealing with completely mixed songs.therefor there will always be a sound difference between the songs. You can normalize the songs quite simply by going to
transform\amplify\normalize
set normalize to say 95% and do this with all the songs in your multitrack (double click your files to get them in your edit screen)The thing with normalizing is that it will amplify the song to 95%,based on the "loudest"peak of the song.I personaly
am not to fond of the normalize function, because it can seriously damage your dynamic range. But like I said, you will always have to cope with some major differences between the songs, since every
recording artist has his\her own style of finalizing a song.I hope this helps you out a bit,
