Can I use Cool Edit 2000 or Cool Edit Pro to change the tempo of a "wave" file song (e.g., slow the song down) without changing the pitch?

Another way of asking the question is this: Can I transpose a *.wav file song up an octave without changing the speed of the song?

Thanks for your help.

In a word, yes.

This is the "stretch" function in Cool Edit Pro... I'm not sure of all the functions available in CE 2000 without any plug-in's installed - someone else can help clarify this.

All the best... -Jon

Thanks very much jonrose. Hopefully, someone will know if the "stretch" function is available in the Cool Edit 2000 basic. Or one of its plugins.

I'm a little confused as to what is actually included in the Cool Edit 2000 basic. It seems like quite a bit of the editing capability is added only by plugin.

Best wishes,

I believe you'll find that in CE2K, 'stretch' is in the tweakin' toys plugin.

Investor, 'Stretch' is part of CE2000, and does not require a plug-in. I have CE2000 and the only plug-in that i have is 'Audio cleanup'. Just to be sure, I just checked the Syntrillium home page for CE2K and it lists 'Stretch' as being part of the basic package.

Well, silly me. I got confused with the pitch bender, which is in tweakin' toys. Well, that's what it says. When you have them all installed, it is rather hard to tell what came from where. Sorry 'bout that.

Hi Investor. Yes, Stretch is indeed part of CE2K. Now, for something as radical as an octave jump, you might experience some artifacts...so be sure to use 'High Precision' and selecting 'Time Stretch(preserves pitch)'. This would be for speeding up or slowing down without changing pitch...

If you actually want to pitch transpose, but keep the tempo the same, choose 'Pitch Shift (preserves tempo)
