I don't use any MOTU products, and hopefully someone else will read this that does. However, I can tell you that CEP can do 24 channels quite nicely, (but not in Windows 2K, with its device limitation), and the success of this is completely dependant on the MOTU drivers for Windows and the ability of your hardware to keep up with that kind of data bandwidth.

I use a MOTU 24i and it works fine with CE Pro version 2.1. Cant say for sure about a 24i/o but I would think it would work fine.

I've been using a Motu 24i/o with Cool Edit Pro 2.1 for a few months now, mostly doing multitrack studio sessions, but I did a live gig the other night recording as many as 18 simultaneous tracks. It worked fine.
I started out on Delta 1010's and although I still use them and like them, I now prefer the Motu for it's single card simplicity and ease of use when dealing with more than 8 tracks. I get trim control through Cuemix Console as well. This is great when you're recording is fed from someone else's mixing board/preamps.
As far as the Motu driver problems everyone seems to talk about, I never experienced any in Windows 2000 or Windows XP Pro (I switched to XP after this forum helped me figure out that Win2k limits devices to 20 inputs). In both OS's the Motu fired up after the first try with the drivers. Be careful to follow directions included though.
To sum up, nothing but good experiences so far with the Motu 24i/o...

I use a 24i without problems. I'd be happy to test a 24i/o for you if you'd like to provide the test unit.
