Hello there. I downloaded Cool Edit 2000. Tried to play a mp3, but the sound did not work. I could see the little line moving, like it was playing, but there was no sound. I quickly realized this program was way WAY over my head, and it looked so damn confusing, that I just uninstalled it. Problem is now I have no sound on my laptop AT ALL! Can't play anything in windows media player, WIN DVD or quick time. Volume is all the way up on the volume controls.

I'm on a Dell Inspiron 8200, Windows XP Home Edition. Thanks for any help, I NEED IT! >:K

The volume is up, but is it muted? Also, check the Control Panel - Audio and Sound settings. Make sure you soundcard is the default playback device...

Do a search on www.dell.com for "Dell Inspiron 8200 drivers." Just check to see if there are any later drivers or bios updates that you don't yet have.

Thanks for your reply. Volume is not muted, I checked that. For the default sound device it the control panel, it says 'Intel(r) Integrated Audio'...then I think under hardware, the sound card is listed as 'Intel(r) 82801 CA/CAM AC'97 Audio Controller'. How do I know if this is the correct listed soundcard??? Also, I've looked at dell, but I don't know how to find the right download that I would need. ACK!!!!!!

Help?

Nevermind, fixed it! I asked my husband (who works for Dell, LMAO), and I downloaded the correct driver, and voila, it is now working. I knew I should have just asked him first, but I didn't want to admit I screwed something up. LOL

Anyone know of a simpler editing program? ALL I need to do is be able to clip a part of a song, and save it from a .mp3 to a wav.

Thanks!

I can think of some others - a net search will find you loads - but you won't find a better one than CE. It's really very easy and intuitive to use. Stick with it for a few days and you'll soon start to see how good it really is.
