Guys, I hope someone can help me. When I use the Click Reduction or Noise Reduction functions, I'm getting the "Warbly" results that are unusable, I have to "undo" it.

Heres what I'm doing:

Click Reduction:

Hitting "Find All Thresholds", letting it change the values, then hiting OK.

Noise Reduction:

This is the really bad one....even only setting the slider to do 20% reduction, the results are STILL warbly!!!

I'm giving the NR a sample of ONLY noise, hitting close, highlighting the entire Wave, opeing up NR again, hitting "Find All Thresholds" and hitting OK.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to remove noise and clicks without getting the "warbly" sound>>

Thanks!!!!

Hi Mikey,

For the clicks and pops, select the whole file. Click on one of the presets that closely resembles the problems and type of file you have. Click the "Auto Find All Levels" button. Adjust all other parameters and experiment until you get the results you want. That's about the best I can do because every file is different.

For NR, you are overdoing it! Move that slider much higher, but adjust the Reduce By value to around 20-40. This and the slider will have the biggest impact on how the file will sound, other than the FFT size. Lately, I have been using an FFT size of 2048. Low, yes, but at least I don't overdo it by using it.

That spectral decay rate will help you to cut down or eliminate any artifacts you may have. Again, you will have to experiment to find out what works for the file at hand. There is no one solution. I find that using high FFT will suck the life out of the music, and we both know what overdoing NR sounds like! As gently as I do it, there are people on the SH board who would skewer me for using it!

There's some confusion here. The command "Find all Thresholds" doesn't exist in the NR menu.

However, the simple answer to your question is you are overdoing the processing. A search of the archives will find many threads about both these subjects (Click and NR reduction). However, each track is unique and requires some experimentation to get it exactly right.

Just a note, Graeme, some consider de-clicking to be NR. Technically, it IS NR...

Technically, it is impulse reduction!

Whatever you want to call it, the function doesn't exist in the NR menu.
