Hi,

CEP 2.1 starts after playing 9 tracks for 10 second to stutter/ pause and resume (I don't know exactly how to say it but I think it's clear enough). My taks manager in W2k shows only 56% of cpu capacity is being used and my memory usage is not to it's limit. So why does it do this... I should be able to get a better performance out of my pc I guess..
I've heard something about Windows swap file, but where can I find this?

Thank in advance, Maarten

You might also do a search for "buffer settings". Adjusting your buffer settings in CEP CAN help in smoothing out the performance. Shy

Also, what is the capability and condition of your hard drive? Since the CPU is not the bottleneck, keep checking everything else...

Well, it's not the HD because I could play 26 tracks in cubase and 24 tracks in a Mackie HDR and that was no problem. The HD is a Maxtor Diamond Max Plus 9 7200 RPM. The active OS and all other programs are installed on another HD

You need to find the sweet spot in your number of buffers and buffer length in CE and also depending on your soundcard your number of samples per buffer on the soundcards software. For me its the number of samples per buffer anyway as I am using a MOTU. It will vary a lot from setup to setup. With my old computer I had to set the number of samples per buffer to 8092 or it would do that and with my new computer I have to set it to 64 or it will do that. As far as the CE settings higher numbers will make the computer use more resources. Id check what they are set at in your cubase and try the same numbers.

See the optimisation thread in the 'tips and tricks' forum here, and search this forum for words of relevance like "swap" - there's a wealth of tuning / optimising advice to be found. I assume these are straight playback tracks, not with effects? Some of the realtime effects will quickly 'eat' your machine, but you'd see the CPU and/or memory max out under those circumstances.

Syntrillium MDs setting are what I used for a starting point.

How does the background mix meter look when this happens? Does the green bar get very tiny and then the stuttering starts, or does it still have plenty of green when it stutters? Also, have you tried right-clicking on the green mix meter and adjusting the mix priority?
