Hiya!
I have a problem. When I plug my guitar to the computer, it sounds great. But when I record it with CoolEdit, the sound that plays back are 1)really crappy phone-quality and 2)not the right tempo.
I record with metronome on.
I have tried to check all settings in WindowsSpeaker and Soundblaster, but the sound stays the same. But I can playback to the crappy sound with a really good tone.
I have a Aoundblaster Audigy, Behringer Vamp2 to the LINE plug on the card, and cool speakers. 'Puter is a Athlon2000+ and 1Gb memory.
Pls help.
ps, If I open *wavs into the program, they sound ok.

First thing to address is the sound quality.. are you using the cab simulator on the behringer.?. I personally have found that number 15 is the most useful/ versatile.

Try this, in Edit View, click File, then New, then Click 44.4K Stereo 16 bit. Then try recording.

You set the recording quality to match the normal CD 'standard'. Obviously, it was at a lower level prior to this.
I think my congratulations have to go to Dakota for spotting this one so easily.

I am rockin' now...hehe
What I initially did was to have everything I could find set to 32-bit. Maybe the system coulnd't handle this? Or maybe my Behringer Vamp is 16bit...have to check that.
Then the new question arises: Will recording in 16bit make my final mix suffer? I thought I had to record in 32bit and reduce quality from there, ending up in a 44KHz 16bit endproduction?
Suddenly I realize -oh- how little I know...
Anyway , thanx guys

You have a Soundblaster card, this is limited to 16 bit anyway. You can convert your recordings to 32 bit once you have them in the computer. There are some advantages to this, but I doubt if you need worry about at this stage in the game.
More likely, although your bit rate was high, you probably had a low sampling frequency - this will have a considerable effect on the overall quality of the signal.
The V-Amp provides an analogue output signal, so its internal workings are inconsequential.

I wouldn't worry too much about bit depth. Anything above 16 bit is likely to be more than enough for your purpose.
If I were you, I would record everything at 48KHz sampling rate. This is because the SB card resamples everything to that rate internally (it's the native clock rate of the card) and it doesn't do it that well! Use CEP to resample your finished mix to 44.1KHz, ready for transfer to CD.

Ah well, that's life . Stick around here (and the other forum below) and you'll soon learn a lot.
