Okay...it's been a long time coming but I have a little bit of money and I could use your expert...or just general opinion on what microphone to purchase. What I need is a mic that will help my vocals to be all over the beat...you know that full sound instead of the flat on that I get with my computer mic. Some people call it warmth, some call it presence...not sure what he difference is but that's what I need out of the mic I buy. I've been looking at these 4, if anyone has experience with them please let me comment...or if you have a favorite that sounds like it will pacify my needs please comment. The mics I'm looking at buying are CAD GXL2200, Behringer B1, Marshall MXL2003, or MXL2001. Comments on any of these mics will be greatly appreciated.

You are really addressing two entirely separate issues, whether you realize it or not.

1)
As to the microphone:
My best advice is to go listen to some of them at a large pro audio store - If you don't live next to one of these, it's worth a day trip just for the education.

Any reasonable-quality large-diaphragm microphone will be light-years ahead of what you're using now.

2)
As for making your voice "all over the beat", that's up to you. This subject has been beat to death, but I'll say it again:
Voice talent takes a lot of work. And more importantly, a voice is not something you can just transform with tricks and toys - it's too obvious.

Many (read: MOST) voices don't really cut the mustard, no matter what you do to them after the fact. On the other hand, you may be one of the lucky ones. But in any case, you will just have to work diligently to get the most out of the voice that you've been born with. And if you don't want to take my word for this, then go read some posts from the station supervisors (like Craig) over on the Radio forum.

Anyway, good luck with it!
;)

Best... -Jon

edit:
p.s. 'UPN kinda effect' you will find a very recent thread in the Cool Edit forum that addresses this same concept. Cool
