I'm a novice. Audio books on CD's allow listeners to pause,
go fast-forward, reverse, or select tracks or chapters at will.
What program do I need to set up my CD's to do the same?

If your using Cool Edit... you can use the F8 to insert cues. Rather than go into the process description (and take a chance on giving bum advise)... do some searchs of the forum archives for "inserting cues", "batching conversion", burning CD's (DAO or TAO.. which is disc at once or track at once).
