I'm assisting a friend who is a radio DJ and needs to record some interviews for playback during the graveyard shift, she has a number of industry friend that have all told her how easy it is to achieve using CE and asked for my assistance in configuring her PC.

I'm familiar with recording in general (Audacity) butt I've never recorded a phone conversation. I spoke with one 'expert' who told me that it was possible to record from the modem directly ... now I'm assuming that requirements such as a voice modem with full TAPI are required. The modem I used was a DLink DFM560E which apparently is only partially TAPI compliant.

If this assumption is correct and a TAPI modem will facilitate the recording of the converrsation what modems are known to function well?

Also, if the interviewer would like to use a separate Mic to provide a better quality recording, how does only the interviwee get recorded and not both voices travelling down the phone line???

Looking forward to any replies, advice, or tips.

I'm in Melbourne Australia just in case there's a local user who can lend a hand.

thanx

I'd search the forum for 'telephone' or 'phone' while you wait for any specific replies - there have been quite a few previous threads on this subject from which you will pick up all sorts of hints and tips.

To record the conversation in the first place, you might find that 'Total Recorder' is a good tool, but when it comes to editing it afterwards, Cool Edit's the one.

(I'm in Melbourne but I've never needed to record a phone call - right place, wrong person!).

You know that old saying "keep it simple stupid"
The whole recording from modem thing sounds a little tricky and would require some configuration, which if you don't what you're doing will probably just end up being a headache.
So my suggestion is keep it simple.
Below is a link to a website that has all kinds of telephone recording jacks.
It is pretty simple, but I don't know about the modem thing8)
Good luck,
R
