Hello, I am new to the game of Home Recording, so I need some help. Basically I am an aspiring songwriter, (vocals, acoustic guitar, harmonica, drum machine, and mandolin) so this will be used to make demos. So far I have just built my PC (2.4 gig P4, Asus p4p800 deluxe motherboard, WD 80gig 7200 RPM HD, 512mgs of Ram, with WinXP.
For Vocals I will be using Audio Technia AT3525 Cardioid Condenser Mic, but am looking to purchase an instrumental mic for acoustic guitar, and mandolin w/ no amp (advice would be appreciated). So next I was looking for mixers when I came across the Aardvark Direct Pro 24/96 (I thought this sound card would be perfect for what I'll be using CEP for) Aparently it is 4 channel mic preamp (w/phantom power)and Mixing software (which would eliminate a mixer). So my question is has anyone out-there in forum land used a soundcard like this or similiar, and what was there experience. Also, any other advice on Mixer setups you wish to share would be helpful. Thanks
Big Grin

Your choices will depend on what (how many inputs) you need to record simultaneously. All subsequent mixing can be done quite handily in CE.

You need to sit down with a pencil and decide exactly what you need, first. Then buy the kit you need to accomodate these needs. If you don't need to mix a bunch of things to get them into the computer, then an Aardvark might be useful to you.

And a search of these forums will turn up a lot of answers.

Best... -Jon

I use an aardvark q10 and am very happy with its quality and its mic pre-amps. Its got a mixer like interface which makes it very easy to use.Not to mention it works very well with cooledit.
If i had to choose again I would go for the aardvark.

I also use a Q10 with a similar setup to yours. It works very well. The only issue I've had is that, when HyperThreading is enabled on my P4, the latest drivers for the Q10 do not work. Since the driver is a unified driver (used for all their products) I would assume you'd run into similar problems with the 24/96 although I could be wrong. If I go down to the 7.00 drivers things run very well, although I did get some glitches that are documented for the 7.00 driver.

I contacted Aardvark about this and they said they'd be working on a solution to solve the issue with the 7.04 drivers and HyperThreading.

If I had to do it all over again, I'd also get the Q10 again.
