Here's one for you trivia buffs. Neumann microphones Co. is giving away some great mics, but you have to work to win the contest. Once you enter, they send you a CD-Rom loaded with questions regarding music, production, effects, equipment, with many sound samples of miking techniques, which YOU have to answer. It quite an extensive test, and you can learn alot, just by taking it. It's quite interesting actually, guessing which technique is being used, which settings on various effects units, music in general, intrument and gear trivia. Guaranteed to keep you busy for quite a while. I'm sure I flunked the test, but I did learn alot, and may go thru it again, it does take time, and will help to develope your high end recording and mixing skills.

The CD-Rom is free, and more info about the contest and prizes can be found at this link:

Maybe you "know it alls" will have better luck than me, and win the Solution D Mic, and a trip to Berlin to tour their plant.

Good Luck !!!

I see they have a new digital mic - the Solution-D.

I wonder if digital mics will be any more successful than digital monitors. Tongue

You can get to enter the competition without waiting for the CD by downloading the entire thing from here. But I should warn you that this is a 130Mb download...

And it appears to help if you know just about everything there is to know about Neumann mics. If it's any consolation, I don't!

Looks like a bit of fun, though. And that 'digital' mic's been around a little while now - and of course it isn't really digital, the front end is firmly analog, as it will always be on a mic.

You don't have to know everything about Nuemann mic to play this contest. There's only a couple of Neumann mic trivia questions, it's more geared to miking techniques, which can be used by any good quality mic. There's also trivia on guitars, synth's, recording equipment, effects ect, so I would say it tests your all around studio abilities and knowledge. There's lots of pictures and sound samples of various miking techniques, effects settings, which show the different sounds that you get from various mic placements. In most cases the sounds differences are very minute, so you have to have a good ear. But if you don't have the good ear, it'll show you where you're lacking. They don't supply you with the correct answers though, so it's not a total instructional tool yet, but still very informative.

Yes, it's a fun test or trivia game for studio musicians or techies, and put together very well, and you could win some great mics.

I didn't know it could be downloaded, so I got the CD in a couple of days.
