If it's a bog-standard one, then I doubt it will work very well. 32Mb of RAM is pushing it for running an application like CEP.

On the other hand, if the memory has been expanded to the max of 160 Mb (? I think that's most you can install in one of these things) then it will probably be OK.

What about the HDD size? Audio takes up a lot of space.

I doubt if the soundcard is up to much either - certainly, it will not produce 'professional' results.

As with many questions like this, it would be easier to give a good answer if we had a good question. A lot depends on what, exactly, it is you want to use it for?

Thank you for your reply Graeme.
The machine will be dedicated to this task and has a 6.4GB HD.
128MB Ram.
We will be using this for voice (speaking) not music.

I'm not familiar with this model of Toshiba laptop, but the only snag with my older CDT410 was that the soundcard was not duplex. It recorded and played back fine, but not both at the same time.

If your laptop has a line-in, and many Tosh machines don't, you should use that via a suitable mixer or mic pre. You might have to deal with the noise from the power supply if you use the laptop on mains and connect to other equipment.

Graeme won't grind me down. Today I've just done a drama recording. We used a pair of laptops via their internal soundcards and demoted the DAT recorder to be the 2nd backup. The recording may not have been perfect, but it was quite 'professional' enough for broadcast use. The mixing was down to my usual standards :)

The laptops were easier to set up than the DAT, and editing and burning to CD on the laptop will be a doddle.
