Random Array of Inexpensive/Inexpensive (your choice) Discs.

Basically it's a number of different ways of spreading data across more than one HDD such that, should any one drive bcome unusable, the data can be recovered.

I just re-read a fairly long private email I wrote at much the same time..... oh dear, oh dear, oh dear.
