I understand that there is a 'de-esser' component or software for Cool Edit 2000 that can help to eliminate popping-p sounds in voice audio.

Does anyone know where I can find this de-esser component, either within Cool Edit 2000, or perhaps as third party sofware?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Cliff.

A de-esser is not going to help you eliminate plosives - it's intended to eliminate sibilants. These are at opposite ends of the frequency spectrum!

I don't have CE2000, so I don't know what tools it comes with. For a plug-in De-esser, then dbAudioware have a pretty neat and effective tool. Alternatively, you might be able to get away with using a parametric EQ (which I think CE2000 has).

However, I imagine that popping is your real problem and I don't know of any easy way to eliminate these after the event, although this has been discussed here and some people have posted various semi-manual methods they employ. Perhaps an archive search might help you here.

The real solution is not to record them in the first place. You'll also find a lot of information about correct microphone techniques in the archives.

Thanks for the information, Graeme.

I'll search the Cool Edit archives for 'plosives.'
