I have been useing CEP for about 2 months now with no problems whatsoever. Just recently though, when I open it, it causes "an error in coolpro.exe" and closes everytime. I have un- and reinstalled it with no luck. I should let you know that I recently installed Sound Blaster Live sound card, but did use it sucessefully since then. Also am using Windows ME, 64m ram. I really don't want to have to use SAW again, help please!

Forgot to ask another question in previous post: I'm looking for advice on cleaning up audio recorded from the internet. I would like to make it a little brighter, and airable. Any suggestions on what effects or presets to use would be appreciated.Smile

Not certain, but with 64megs RAM you could be short on memory. I know you said you've run for a couple months, but perhaps installing the SBLive and its software has put your system right on the line of being able to run. If you at all surf the internet also on that machine, it's possible you have some hidden programs running, normally called spyware. Just a thought.

Recently, a kind soul posted a link to Lavasoft Adaware, and I have to say that it's pretty effective, especially now they've improved the front end...

Minor,
Something I've noticed is that if CEP crashes while you are in a multitrack session, when you try to re-open CEP, it will occasionally (not always) keep on crashing.
The only way to get CEP to re-open is to delete the temp files, so that CEP isn't trying to re-open the session you were in when it first crashed.
To get rid of the temp files, you need to know where your two CEP temp directories are. If you do, go to those two folders and delete the temp files.
If you don't know the folders, the rough and ready way is to open windows explorer, go find files, and type in *.tmp, scan all hard drives, and when it finishes it's search, select all the tmp files found, and hit delete.
Cheers,
Bruce.

With my experience with Windows Me and various music software programs, I would say you definetly need more memory, The more the merrier. I'm running 256 and Cool Edit works fine. Windows Me is a huge memory hog, and I used to have it on my computer, and was thinking about putting it back on , and everyone I talked with advised me against it, so I stuck with Windows 98SE. XP is getting better reveiws than Windows ME, but 98SE seems to work good for me. I still have a few bugs here and there, but nowhere near the aggrevation with Windows ME. It's too bad because I did like the program at first, but after awhile, I went back to 98SE. Who knows, maybe now that I have a little bigger processor and more memory than before, it would work better.

I had the same problem with another program on the MAC. As soon as I upgraded the memory, the program ran better.

Going from 128megs to 256 helped my system *tremendously*. Speedup was noticeable on processing and multitracking. RAM is so cheap it's one of the best things you can add to help. I believe, in the states at least, RAM is running at around $25-$30 for 64megs. Do it, you'll be happy for it.

Also, do a Search (click above) for spyware and you will find several threads giving much more help on getting your machine clean than what we've given here.

Thanks for all of the suggestions, more memory is in the near future for sure for me. Any suggestions on my other question about internet audio that sounds muddy?

In theory, add a bit of top with one of the Cool Edit equalisers (filters) - in practice, I believe that there's often not much at the top to equalise.

Internet audio is a horrid thing. Due to data compression, there is very little you can do as the audio has been permanently altered by removing much of the original file. You can crank up the highs all you want, but if there is nothing there, you won't get very good results. Try some EQ, parametric, and move the boosted area up and down the frequency spectrum to see where the audio is. Then spread the boosted area out to even things out a bit. Maybe add some upward expansion to get a semblance of dynamic range back. Don't expect miracles though, it's software, not God.
