Ok, here's my Problem(tm). I'm a guitar player and I play a Tele - which (lol) picks up an amazing scream when the monitor is on! It fades when I back off about 6ft. but then I'm too far away from the computer to poke on anything (and falling out of the small zone I have for my computer-based studio into a fishtank).

I was looking at Red Rover and it *APPEARS* that I can use this to arm/disarm tracks, switch tracks, play/record/rewind etc. - in short, everything I need to track in - WITHOUT HAVING THE MONITOR ON.

Has anyone tried this, and if so, is it relatively usable? I'm trying desperately NOT to spend the cash on a standalone recorder, and in no way am I going to swap out my single-coils for humbuckers (heh heh).

Comments etc. welcome, this problem is driving me crazier than I usually am!

Hi wooly. That's exactly what the Rover was designed for! It really removes the need for the monitor altogether, as it's little backlit LCD displays absolute time, the track you're recording to, whether there's existing data in a track (so you don't accidentally record over something brilliant!) and well as you monitoring level and more. The best part is that you can also create a 'headphone' mix by adjusting levels for each track, right on the screen.

Actually, the *best* part is that is has a footswitch jack - ideal for hands-free record-start and stop - especially for guitarists! I don't use it on air - but for voice tracking and instrument tracking, it's always connected.

How bout a flat screen monitor?? You'll enjoy it for years to justify the cost. Shy

Thanks EdRadio, I'm going to go ahead and pick up RR! Hopefully that'll take care of things..

Voodooradio, I use my audio machine for other purposes - most notably watching DVDs and doing 2D/3D artwork.. and there are still color and performance issues on flatscreens that are less than $1200! Pixel response is miserable for gaming as well, although in theory it's getting better.. but it doesn't solve the color reproduction issues. It's not worth the cash outlay (like I had the money for a reasonable flat-panel, even!). Good idea, but not currently technically feasable.
