...writing from Germany, please excuse some bad english...
Hi, I want to record 24 hours in CD-Quality (44Khz, 16Bit, Stereo).
A 24 hours-Recording will use about 15 Gigabytes of disc space. But Windows 98 Second Edition has a SizeLimitation in its Filesystem. Cool Edit 2000 is not able to record more than 4 Gigabytes.
So, I created 4 Partitions with each 4 Gigabyte space.
But now its impossible to record more than 8 Gigabytes because there are just two temporary directory settings in Cool Edit 2000.
I hope you understood what I mean.
Does anybody know how I can solve my problem without upgrading to Windows NT or 2000 ?
Is there a possibility to set more than two temporary directories ?
Or does exist a setting in Cool Edit 2000 to split the recording files after a special amount without stopping the recording operation ?
I'll be very happy if somebody has a solution. THANKS A LOT!

Hello. The bottom line is, you can't do it...continuously. You could, however, split it up into different files (which would require stopping and starting again). But in truth, you really don't want to be working on 4Gb files anyway! You can do it, but any type of global processing, let alone saving and editing would be rather exhuative, I imagine.

I don't know whether it would work on huge files, but in the days of Cool 96 on early Pentiums, we used to set up one machine with about half a dozen instances of Cool with new pre-named files.
We would record on the first, then, after an appropriate time stop the first (to free the record side of the soundcard) and start the second. And so on. When each one started recording, the previous instance was set to save the file that had been recorded. On a well set up machine there were no glitches.
This worked fine for small (eg 5 minute) sports reports being received manually and then edited and sent across a LAN while the next was recording.
Don't forget that the wave format itself has a 4gig limit.
