I just put CE2K on my laptop - Toshiba Tecra 8000 - 266 PII with a Yamaha sound card (I think). I recorded from a CD just to see it work. I finally found how to adjust record levels, I think it was line-in. I had to turn it down as low as possible and it still was hitting the far right of the line. I don't know what you call all this, I do know that a good bit of the graph was above the 32k line which means I'm clipping right?
Anyway is there a way to bring it down more?

Are you using the windows mixer or the soundcard mixer?
You can probably try to lower down the rec. level (line in) using the alternative mixer you didn't use yet.

Winch, it's been a long time! How are those mp3?
Anyway, in addition to possibly having two mixers, one in Windows, and one for the card, check the volume for the CD player input in the Windows mixer.

Winch, just to be clear...were you recording from an external CD player (from the line-out on the CD deck to the line-in 1/8" jack in the laptop) or were you recording from the internal CD-R drive (in which case, it wouldn't be the line-in control on the Windows Mixer that you need to adjust -- it would be the CD control, as Beetle stated)?

Hey beetle, how you been? I've kind of dropped this hobby for a while and went back to playing with my 68 Camaro. Now I'm getting my laptop ready for my daughter to take off to college. I got her an external CD/RW and put CE2k on it.
I was testing CE2K by recording from a CD being played in the laptop's selectable bay. I believe I found it was the CD player input volume control under the record option of the windows mixer that I had to turn all the way down. I need to check to see if I have a set of mixer controls for the Yamaha. I don't have the laptop here with me at work. I'll let y'all know what I find out tonight.
