I am using Windows XP and am infrequently getting this error when I am playing VERY large WAVs. I will make my selection and play a few seconds then stop it and go to a new selection and repeat... i.e. trying to find a particular spot in a song. Occasionally this error pops up when I hit stop. Of course I can Re-open and pick up right where I left off but my question is this. Is this a common error for windows 2000 users or is it something that might be centric to XP. If this isnt common for Windows 2000 users then I will take my machine in to work with me and let the Application compatibility people have a look at it, to insure that XP is the best it can be. If 9x users dont see this then I can do the same also. But if it seems to be a CEP issue then I will just let it be.

I use Win98 and I think I ran into it once when I ran out to HD space.

This is certainly not typical of Cool Edit's performance. As far as under XP, because it is only beta, I really couldn't make a judgment as to why that's happening, much less even comment since it has not been released.
Certainly, under Win2k, CE performs as well as under 9x, Me, etc.
And, as Beet pointed out, we've seen this error pop up when HD space was low AND/or RAM was bad.
If you have any specific questions, please email

After upgrading my main server to the latest Main build (2478 for those interested) I have not been experiencing these issues. Hard drive space was not an issue with 60 gig Free on a striped drive and 1 gig of Ram. This was not a "constant" occurence but would pop its head up about 1 in 50 attempts. I understand Syntrillium cant do much about it since it is still a beta OS but I can since I work for MS. I was simply trying to find out if this is something that we need to look at or if it was a common occurence.. Apparently We needed to look at it and someone fixed the issue. My hat is still off to Syntrillium for a Kick A@@ product.

Thanks for the good words. Certainly, I'm happy to hear about the improved performance under the latest build; but by all means, keep us posted of your findings.
