I just finished a composition using CEP. It is mastered and basically ready to go. Now my question is, if I decided to get this track pressed onto 12" vinyl, would the manufacturers rather receive a DAT master or a CD-R master from which to press from? Is there any significant variation in quality between the two formats? I have a CD-R burner but not a DAT and am wondering if I'm missing out. Thanks for any help!

Hello. It all depends on what the duplication plant requires. Most will accept CDR for just about anything...you'll probably need to include a 'timing' sheet that lists all the specs of the program material...but with Vinyl pressing, it's likely to be a slightly different ballgame, so check with them directly.

As far as quality loss...the only real difference would be if you had recorded everything at 48k, with a DAT you could leave it at 48K (assuming the plant could accept that) FOr CD, of course, it needs to be 44.1...but in general, I wouldn't say that you're missing out.
