Not sure if this the appropriate place to post this, but anyway, if anyone's interested I've quickly written a file filter for the Ogg Vorbis format, which you can get here:
http://www.btinternet.com/~jfchapman/files/cooledit_ogg.zip (172Kb)

Jim, I don't know why no-one has replied sooner, but this is very cool indeed. Has been working a treat for me. Thanks for the effort!

The Ogg Vorbis format finally reached version 1.0 today, so I've updated the filter for those that need it. Much improved sound quality at the lower bitrates, and IMHO all the way down to ~80-90kbps it's difficult to make out any artifacts.
I'm sure most forum members here have more critical ears than I have, so it'd be interesting to hear what they think ;)

Thanks! I just downloaded it.
The only reason I never use it with that other program is because no one in the US seems to use it. It's always mp3 or .WMA. But, it's nice to have in Cool Edit just in case it's needed.

This is really wonderful!
I think that you're going to be running into more and more people who desire to have .ogg support because of the licensing that's being enfoced for MP3's now.
I know that a lot of Indie Game Developers are now using .ogg so to me, it's extremely worthwhile to be able to do this is Cool Edit.

Hi Jim,
is it possible (or will it be) with your very fine File Filter for the Ogg Vorbis format to choose another sample rate than 44100?

Hi Jim!
Thank you so much for doing this plug-in!
I'm in the process of moving the http://freesounds.net radio streams to ogg vorbis. Cool Edit is my primary tool and having built-in support for ogg certainly makes life easier.
Regards,
g.

The vorbis filter seems to work beautifully for saving a file.
Unfortunately, it doesn't like to import .ogg files into cool edit 2000.
Am I doing something wrong?

Many thanks for the OGG filter. I shall be using it constantly. Can anyone else assure me that I am not wrong in thinking the sound superior to MP3?

I think the general opinion agrees with you tgame, the technical comparisons I have seen (can't remember the site) also show some superiority at different rates, but not as much as I expected. I personally use only Ogg for music I store on my HD, I just wish there were players which handles native ogg.

I'd like to point out to an alternative (and faster) plugin.
It's available at http://www.inf.ufpr.br/~rja00/
It's been compiled with the famous Intel C++ Compiler (that's why it's faster. Around 20% on my test)
Source code included.
Regards;
Roberto.
