I've been told to roll the bass of my vocals so that they fit into the mix better. Can someone who comes from non-digital mixing experience tell me what that means. I know they are talking about turning the bass knob to the left on the track, but in terms of digital mixing with CEP, what bass frequencies are effected, how many dBs are reduced and is it a strict gate or a slope or what?

A simple way to remember this is to reference the bass-rolloff frequencies to those present on many microphones. Typically, good condenser microphones have 'pad' switches and 'roll-off' switches. This is usually found at 75hz is a 'shelving' type of EQ, where you are basically cutting everything below 75hz, quite radically. Consider it a high pass filter if you will. This can best be done in the FFT Window or with the Parametric EQ. Keep in mind that where your roll-off begins is highly dependent on the music behind the voice AND the voice itself. There isn't necessarily one frequency that works all the time.
