When working between wave files and multitrack, what makes CE pro create a numbered version of a wave file?

To keep track of the saved versions...

The most common cause is...

Each subsequent recording in the same track in MT view will generate a new track number. For example, you record something in track 1 and don't like the way it sounds. You then click on it and press Del on your keyboard. This removes the file form that track. But the file still exists in Edit view. Now when you record in the same track again, it gives it a new name like "Track 1 (2)". This way, you won't over-write other files.

The same senario is true if you use punchin in MT view.

To avoid this instead of using Edit > Remove or pressing the delete button, select Edit > Destroy wave. This will remove the file from MT view and will delete it. So your next recording will not get a new number.
