when recording an overdub, play back of the new track is sometimes late of a few milli sec.

Hello PM. Without knowing the specifics of your system (ie, Operating System, soundcard, type of machine, etc) it's hard for me to make an exact determination. But these type of problems usually occur when you have an outdated soundcard driver, or a bad installation of a driver. I would recommend going to your soundcard manufacturer's website and downloading the latest driver for your operating system. This can usually fix a host of performance issues.
