I use CEP 1.2a at home and at work and would like to have my presets, favorites, scripts, keyboard shortcuts and imp's to all match in both locations. I have successfully copied scripts and imps but haven't had any luck with the rest... apparently copying the cool.ini and coolcust.ini are not enough? Any advice on how to proceed?

Marc

Hello Marc - Depending upon what operating system you are using AND what version of Cool Edit that you upgraded from, there may be more than one Cool.Ini that you need to copy over. With CEP 1.2a, the cool.ini is stored in the CoolPro folder. Under WinNT and 2000 however, there are other folders that are created, and as a result, the CoolIni and CoolCustIni must be copied from those as well...

The easiest way would be to do a Find File search...(are you using Win2000 or NT? I'm kind of assuming you are)

Under 95, 98 and Me however, you want to copy the CoolIni and CoolCust that are in the Coolpro folder.

Now it gets complicated... my home machine is Win2k... my work machine is Win98! However, I did a search and found copies of Cool.ini and Coolcust.ini in the "Documents And Settings" directory tree... I am guessing from the direction your message is taking that the custom settings are stored in both locations, but not duplicated in both locations.. (ie.. I can't copy just the one's from the Document & Settings directory?)

Hi Marc - You'll want to copy the cool.ini and coolcust.ini from your Win2000 machine under c:\Documents and Settings\Your Logon Name\Application Data\Syntrillium\CoolEditPro. Copy those two files from that location (assuming you have win2000 on your C drive!) and then put them into the Coolpro folder on your Win98 machine. You should then be able to see all of your settings/presets, etc.

And be sure that you using the same version of Cool Edit (1.2a) on both machines or it will not work!!
