Hi,
I have successfully been using CEP to record from LPs through my soundcard. I have a CD that was recorded from an LP that has lots of pops and clicks done before my pop/click and noise filter reduction days. Since I want to try and clean up this CD, I am trying to import (open) it into CEP but this doesn't seem to work. Is there a way to do this? I also tried to record from the CD via the PC CD ROM using the CEP CD player into the CEP recorder. The player recognizes my CD RW drive as the player but doesn't recognize the CD ROM drive as the player. I am trying to change the drive for this but don't know where to do this. Has anyone tried this? Thanks

Hi Ken. There are a couple ways to do this...

Under Win95/98/SE, here's how you change the default playback cD device...

Under WinMe, here is how you select your CD...

Of course, it all depends on which CDROM drive is actually connected to your soundcard's input (internal).

As far as opening .CDA files in Cool Edit, here's another link explaining why you can't do that...Essentially, CDA is not an audio format, it is just a windows 'placeholder' for the tracks on the audio cD.

Ken, all you have to do is rip your CD-R to your hard drive with something like CD Creator, that likely came with your computer or burner. Then just open the file in Cool Edit and proceed.

Syntrillium, i'm not trying to upstage you or anything. I just saw an easy solution because people send me their crackly LP's on CD-R for me to clean. I do this on occasion.:)

Hey Beet....no need to apologize! The ripper is definitely the easiest way to go. Recently, however, I've steered away from recommending them because a lot of users seem to have problems with certain ripping applications and WinMe(and/or 2000)

Good suggestion, though...thanks.

Thanks for the reply Beetle. Could you be a little more specific on how you do this; do you mean copy the tracks to the hard drive? Adaptec CD creator has many features; which one and how? I don't use Adaptec too much.

How I do it in CD CD Creator 4 is just insert the CD to be ripped into the CDROM, wait until the tracks are listed in the upper right large window, click the song(s) you want, then click the EXRACT button above. If you don't see that button, simple go to the EDTI menu, click EXTRACT TO FILE and a new window will pop up. Select the directory and folder you wish to save the files in and click O.K.. If you have an internet connection on the PC and use the CDD function, your CD tracks should already be labeled. If not, you can do it later. That's it. Your files are ready to be tweaked with, say, Cool Edit or burned directly to CD-R.

Thanks Beetle,
I'll try it tonight.

Beetle,
I tried it and it works great. I had recorded from an LP to a Philips CD recorder audio unit (the ones that take only Digital Audio Disks). The LP had not been played much and looked like it was in good shape (I recorded Side 1 without any pops) until I recorded Side 2 and then got the $#!&*#! Rice Krispies effect about half way through (Snap, Crackle, Pop). So I decided to send CEP to the rescue and it did a nice job. Sometimes, especially in winter static electricity can cause pops so I use my old Zerostat gun which helps.

Thanks Much
