Audition Keyboard shortcuts, and Red Rover Key Assignments listings

It'd be handy if they has one of these for Audtion:

The slight problem with this is that a lot of people like to arrange their own custom keystrokes, and no standard template is going to work for them. I saw fairly recently a keyboard that had mini lcd display keys (one per key) that you could program to display whatever you wanted - one of those would be ideal.

Trouble is, it cost a small fortune.

Yes, when you are used to a certain arrangement of shortcut keys, adapting to a new template can be frustrating for a while. Reminiscent of adapting to AA2 when you are used to 1.5!!!   But then we've all managed that haven't we?

I'd certainly like to see an Audition version, but I'd need to think I can adapt before buying, at least without too much trouble.

The LCD display keys sounds like a great idea, but it obviously won't be cheap any time soon. It would have the huge advantage of being easily changeable for any program - Audition, Word, Paintshop etc. I'd be very interested in a link...

The one that everybody has been waiting for (but is still vapourware) is the Optimus, but one that's available now, although only having function keys with LCDs is the United Keys 205PRO. When you consider that the normal price of this thing is $299 and that it has just the function keys with monochrome displays, how on earth much do you think that the full colour on every key Optimus is likely to cost???

In the meantime, my old (but good) beige kbd allows me to draw a little icon on any key with a permanent pen, just needs to be refreshed every 2 or 3 months. It also has a 2cm gap between the function and the number keys which allows room for a paper template with 4 lines of 12 point text. Thus these are the keys I'm most likely to (re)assign shortcuts to.

Dunno if the key text can be changed for this laser virtual keyboard (nor do I know how reliable this is in practice), but it looks like a neat idea.

Normally when you type, you cover at least a part of the keyboard with your hand. I wonder how they've managed to overcome this little problem, considering that they regard a keystroke as valid if it's only 2mm? The main part of my hand moves more than that when Im typing. I suppose that if you take the largest movement nearest to the top of the keyboard as being the valid input, you might be able to resolve most difficulties, but I think that even if you did this, you might have some difficulties with the spacebar, and anything which requires two or three simultaneous keystrokes to achieve (ie, keystroke rollover isn't going to be at all easy).

Nice idea in theory, but I bet it's absolutely awful to use!

Might as well throw in mention of AutoHotKey here - I've recently started using it to not just create hotkeys and sequences but for writing small functional programs as well.  Nice piece of freeware.

Is it possible to save your custom keyboard shortcuts to a folder, say, if you had to reinstall AA again?  I've had to put the shortcuts in and it's very time consuming.

Ah - we had a slight problem with Karl's ISP (which just happens to be our one as well...), and lost the entire contents of the ftp site. I can replace the PDF though - but it will have to wait for a couple of hours. I'll post a direct link to it then.

Not that it really matters, but I don't blame the ISP for the empty FTP account.  The rest of my FTP accounts were untouched.  I think it was either an intentional or accidental "del *.*" sort of activity by someone on the FTP site.  The fact that the account is essentially public leaves it wide open for something like that.  Had I realized what had happened I could have had the files restored from a backup.

Sorry - couldn't remember exactly what happened to it, only that it disappeared...

Anyway, I've put it back in exactly the same place that it was, so the original link still works.
