Hi

I' want to do a podcast and I'm using Audition 2 to record multitracks coming from 3 mics plugged into a Alesis Firewire Multimix12. My dilemma is that my recording happened to stop in a random pattern, sometimes just a few seconds after I start recording, other times after 1 to 10 of recording minutes or so.

Any idea if I may be doing something wrong in Audition? Is this a normal behavior?

I know I haven't give you a lot of info but all this recording audio is new for me

thanks

Alex

Do you have any other applications open when this happens?

Do you have enough free disk space for your temporary files? Check the settings in Edit/Preferences/Setup and make sure the assigned temp folders have enough free space. And check that AA isn't configured to stop playing when the cursor reaches the end of the window (implicating that the recording might be ok. Right click the play button and select Play from cursor to end of file, or any setting you want).

Thanks Guys,

Despised7 I do have other applications running on the background like internet explorer and things like that

Stan Oliver I do have a lot of free hard drive space where the temp folders are. I right clicked on the "play" button of the multitrack section and it is set up for "Play from cursor to end of file"

When you said "implicating that the recording might be ok" I'm assuming that the mixer is continuously streaming audio into my computer via firewire, everything seem to look ok because even after AA2 stop recording by it self, my Alesis mixer lights keep moving indicating that is capturing the sound coming from the Mics.

Any other ideas? Smiley

Did you update a driver recently? Did you add new hardware? Did you do a Windows Update recently or install other software? Is the audio configuration in AA correct? Perhaps it's time to defragment your hard drive(s). Are all cables connected ok? Are cables or connecters ok, not defect or damaged?

Thanks, Stan Oliver

You asked me if I have update driver recently or if I added a new hardware. Everything is pretty much new because I installed audition for first time in this machine right now, the hard drive have been defragment since I read your reply, cables are connected properly because audition is able to receive the sound coming from the mics via firewire every time I press record.

About the audio configuration of AA, the only thing I have configured so far is under "Audio Hardware Setup", I changed under each tab "Edit View", "Multitrack View" and "Surround Encoder" the "Audio Driver" to "Alesis Firewire".

Should I make any other configuration changes in AA?

Under "Audio Hardware Setup" is the "release ASIO in background" setting checked?

What OS do you use? Vista or XP? Please give more details on your pc and audio setup (cpu, memory, hard drive(s), graphics card, sound card(s)). Does your motherboard have an audio card, and is it turned of in the BIOS?

Sometimes if you disable "Windows Sounds" this can be a help. I'm not sure if you're on Vista what the settings are but on XP it's Start>Control Panel>Sounds and Audio Devices>Audio"Tab" and make sure your own soundcard is default. Check all the tab and you can test record etc to make sure your soundcard is the default. Make sure you save your settings when you exit the window.
