I have a school project to do. It involves designing an electronic system for a  show. It's all imaginary, so cost is not an option.

Right now I'm trying to find a pair of digital mixers to use, a monitor mixer, and a mixer for the PA.

I also want to send all signals to the moniter mixer without snaking them, so what's better, a stage box with echo out, or a moniter mixer with echo out?

Thanx

Well, as money is no object in this theoretical exercise, have a look at the DiGiCo website ( http://www.digico.org/DiGiCo-05/index.htm ).  Spec a pair of D5 consoles and the appropriate I/O options to put the A to D box on stage with digital feeds to both consoles.

....much how the Live8 concert was done in fact!

Thanks.
Question:
Does having the Remote Stage DigiRack negate the need for a stage box?

Er...yes and no.  Certainly the digibox on stage negates the need for a large multicore snake back to the mix/monitor positions,  but you still need to route signals TO the digibox.  Depending on the size of the stage and the composition of the band this may just mean individual XLR cables....but there are situations where it might be tidier and more efficient to run a smaller multi out to certain areas.

How do I split the signal to the two boards? Can I send it to both directly from the digirack?

If you go to the section of the DiGiCo website on I/O options, you will see that it's a modular system and you can add ins and outs as required.  Some options already have multiple outs; with others you can double up the output to feed the two consoles.
