Welcome to the forum.

I deleted your other identical post - one thread is sufficient, because most people use the 'view posts since previous visit' function, and would see it anyway.

Are you actually talking about editing here, or processing? Editing is the act of selecting the words you want, and also rearranging them. It sounds to me as though it's vocal processing, ie, getting a voice to sound better, that you want to know about. Is this correct?

Tell you an easy way to get great vocals....

1. Work with a great singer!!!!!!
2. Have singer well-rehearsed with the song way before recording session / Or if on the fly: goto #1
3. Use a mic best suited for that singer and type of music
4. If you can, use good mic cables and a quality mic preamp
5. Use a quality AD/DA conversion unit.

If you do the above, the rest is easy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BTW - Control your sound: Have your singer sing - in a vocal booth - up close to the mic when dynamics are quiet and back off the mic by stepping back and aiming up to a point over and away from the mic when belting out full fury.

Search forum for: "Groucho"
He's a great singer. See how he works through recording his songs. Mic position. Instruments. Sound fields. Drums. Mix levels.

In order to process vocals you might use some of the following techniques:-

1. EQ - Type of equalisation will depend on voice
2. Compression - Soft knee setting
3. Delay - Helps thicken the voice, try to avoid boxiness
4. Reverb - Use just a little

You can make it as simple or complex as you like.

You may wish to double up some vocals in order to make them richer or use panning on backing vocals to put them in a different space in the mix.

Hope that helps.
