WWW

I just bought 100 squar feets worth of studio foam. I'm a bad boy. I know I shouldn't have splooged my $, but I figured I was going to have to spend it sooner or later. I measured my control room and it's 10X10. Which is not too big and not too small. I figured I'm going to put some foam in front and behind my desk. Next is to buy some decent bass traps for the corners. Any recommendations?

I have my system setup in a closet with the clothes arranged to cancel- out standing waves.  Works nice but people laugh when I tell them.

binary,
Hope you don't mind me calling you by your first name Smiley

Unlike a lot of posters who theorize, post web links, have seen this stuff at shows or music stores, and generally like to argue, I have used foam...lots of it, in three different studios...and I've had uniformly good results. I'll be happy to share some of my experience (and a few tips) if you'll contact me by PM. If not, that's ok too, but I'm a little busy right now, and I don't have time to keep coming back to a thread that could, judging from prior similar threads, turn into a theoretical and intellectual wee-wee contest.

...whatever one of those is. It doesn't generally happen here - we just tell it like it is. And nobody is obliging you to come back - people post here of their own free will, just the same as they buy foam of their own free will...  Cool

Whatever you buy has to take out two significant problems (assuming that the dimensions you gave were in feet), and that willl be the pile-up of modes at two frequencies, one of which is 56Hz and the other of which is 113Hz. If you can knock these two down, you will have solved the worst of your problem.

If you use AA to create a slow sweep through from about 40Hz to about 150Hz, you will probably be able to hear the effect of these quite clearly.

Oh, and FWIW, if the walls are bare and plastered, you might need a little more than 100 sq ft of foam - but this is heading in the right general direction.
