Lately I've been reading Handbook for Sound Engineers - Third Edition.  Over 1500 pages of, uh, stuff.  Much better than Modern Recording Techniques ever was (even if you've read it so many times that it's in a dozen pieces) on every level.

I suggest this book to anybody even remotely interested in this stuff.

From another post:

Let me recommend one of the most useful pieces of literature I have ever purchased: The Musician's Guide to Home Recording by Peter McIan and Larry Wichman. You can pick it up on amazon.com right now for under $10, and I would say it is well worth much more than that.

The book is not definitive, but much like the string-line-mix-primer above, it gives you a very practical place to start from. The book is also a bit dated, but I think you will find that most of the information you need will be found there.

I hope this is helpful to you!

Good luck!

Though, considering Voodoo's likely whereabouts at the time of twright's post, I think I'd call it a suckerpunch!
